One of the best examples of a Sheela-na-gig can be found over the main doorway of this castle about 5 km south of Tuam on the Athenry road. It is a unique and very important figure being one of only two Sheelas that have been carved in association with patterns of Celtic designs.

The geometric designs express divine triplicty and accentuate the magical symbolism of the figure. Despite the pre-christian imagery Sheela-na-gigs are traditionally regarded as imbued with mystic powers.
