The Sheela-na-gig at Behy was originally placed on the now ruined castle but was re-erected on the gable end of one of the nearby farm buidings.

This is a very well preserved figure that is now protected by the roof of a more recently built barn erected as an extension to the original building.

Despite the pre-christian imagery the Sheela-na-gigs date from the Middle Ages, 12th – 16th c and are traditionally regarded as iconic representations of saints. They are very special, magical carvings considered to be imbued with mystic powers.
