In the central chamber of the great mound is the largest example of a decrated stone basin in Europe. The unique design echoes several similar designs on the stones of the perimeter. The ancient name for Knowth is Cnocba, the mound of the Goddess Bó, to whom the Boyne Valley is dedicated. Cnocba is the most highly decorated neolithic site in Europe.
