The cave of Oweynagat, the Cave of the Cat, lies at the heart of the ancient ceremonial centre of Cruachain. It features prominently in mythology where it is regarded as one of the most important entrances to the Otherworld. In ancient times stone lintels carved with Ogham were erected in the entrance that read ‘Freach, Son of Mebh’.
