This sheela-na-gig was discovered during clearance of the old church and gaveyard at Rahara. It was found buried face down so it is in excellent condition and is on view in the County Museum.

It is one of only two sheelas that have been carved with Celtic patterning. The second is in the same area on the castle at Ballinderry in north County Galway.

Despite the pre-christian imagery Sheela-na-gigs are traditionally regarded as imbued with mystic powers.
